SchoolVote Kenya was founded in 2024 by Ian Kibet, a visionary entrepreneur who recognized a critical gap in how Kenyan schools conducted student elections. Traditional paper-based voting was slow, prone to manipulation, and failed to teach students the true value of democratic participation. Ian set out to build a solution that would bring transparency, security, and accessibility to every school election — from student council polls to prefect and monitor elections.
"We're not just building software — we're building a generation of Kenyans who understand the power of their vote, the importance of their voice, and the responsibility of leadership." — Ian Kibet, Founder & CEO
What began as a pilot program in a few Nairobi schools quickly grew into a nationwide movement. Today, SchoolVote serves over 500 schools across all 47 counties, processing more than one million votes with 99.9% uptime and zero security breaches. Our platform supports primary schools, secondary schools, colleges, and tertiary institutions — each with unique needs that we've designed for from the ground up.
Our team brings together expertise in software engineering, election management, cybersecurity, financial governance, and customer success. We've invested heavily in building a platform that is not only technologically advanced but also deeply attuned to the Kenyan educational context — supporting local languages, working on low-bandwidth connections, and complying with the Ministry of Education's guidelines on student governance.
As we look to the future, SchoolVote is expanding beyond elections into a comprehensive school governance platform — adding features for BOM (Board of Management) meetings, parent-teacher association voting, staff elections, and referendum-style decision-making. Our commitment remains unchanged: every vote matters, every voice counts, every election is fair.
